SENDING UNSOLICITED ORIGINALS

An editor you have never worked with has asked to see your travel story idea. She makes no promises about its acceptance. Should you include original images with your query?

In general, don't send unsolicited slides. If you feel your photos are a strong part of your submission, send dupes, photocopies, or scanned images. That way the editor can see your work, and you won't risk losing original slides. Either way, let the editor know that, "Excellent slides are available." In cases where the deadline is close, arrange with the editor to send "originals" if duplicates are not acceptable.
