POCKET NOTES

When traveling and shooting, keep a notebook in your left pocket and a bunch of self-stick labels in the right.

The notebook is for jotting down names of people, cathedrals, streets, markets, hotels, and other subjects. You'd be surprised how quickly you forget which cathedral is which, and, especially in a country where you don't speak the language, how difficult it is to find out how to spell the names correctly once you're back home. Travel editors demand accurate captions.

The labels are for sticking on spent rolls of film so that you'll have a general idea of the subjects they contain in case one gets misplaced or (heaven forbid!) lost by the developer. If labels aren't available, use a marker, the permanent type that can write on metal.
