THE CASE OF THE MISPLACED FILM

You sent six rolls of undeveloped film in pre-paid mailers to the developer. Six rolls were returned but, to your horror, one roll is not yours. You were shooting fall foliage, on assignment, and you're looking at somebody's bar mitzvah party!

Mix-ups happen--you can't prevent them. But you can help in the search. Always record the subject of each of your film rolls. As soon as you've rewound, attach a self-stick label to the roll marked, "autumn leaves, Craftsbury" or whatever you've been shooting. Later, record the mailer number and the date you mailed in the film. This will help the developer greatly in the search for your missing pictures.

Does it always work? Uh, we're still waiting for Fuji to find our fall foliage shots...
