MODEL RELEASES

With travel photos, a model release isn't normally required if the travel photo is to be used for editorial purposes only, such as in a book, newspaper, or magazine. Travel photo editors rarely require model releases. But if you are a service photographer taking commercial photos to be used for advertising, promotion in a brochure, or similar promotional usage endorsing a product or place, then a model release will be required. By the way, early court cases have decided that magazine covers are not considered promotion!

However, since you can never be sure what purposes your photo may eventually be used for, if it is feasible play it safe. Get a model release.
