Steady As She Goes
It's the eternal dilemma. You want to use your tripod, but
you don't want to schlepp it on your ten-mile hike through
the mountains. Here's a portable alternative:
Carry six feet of string and a fishing sinker. Attach one
end of the string to the screw-mount on the bottom of your
camera. Tie the other end to the sinker. Step on the
sinker and pull the string taut while holding the
viewfinder to your eye. Voila! Instant steadiness! Without
lugging that tripod.
