Archival Paper Choices

We've selected the following premium, heavyweight papers for you to print on:

We've chosen these few papers from many because we've found them to be of the highest quality and to have characteristics that complement specific printing needs. Some materials increase or decrease saturation, others are great for textures while others are not. You are welcome to choose yourself (we have examples of everything in the store), or we can help you choose the right material for your specific print.

Ilford Galerie Prestige Smooth Pearl

Ilford's Smooth Pearl is a heavyweight luster/pearl finish RC paper with incredibly vivid colors and dynamic range. The surface of this paper avoids harsh glare and also resists fingerprints. It is an excellent all-around paper for nearly any photographic subject.

Hahnemuhle Photo Glossy 290

Glossy paper has a fantastic color range ideal for vivid color prints. This heavyweight RC-based paper has an incredibly smooth premium glossy finish, which increases visual contrast. This paper is ideal for images that feature naturally reflective surfaces, as well as high-detail images like landscapes or macro photography.

Epson Glossy Metallic

This specialty paper has a unique, high-gloss smooth metallic finish that gives images unforgettable draw and appeal. The specially coated paper will give certain colors in your image an iridescent look. This paper is rather unique, and not all images will benefit from its look. We recommend trying it for naturally high-reflective subjects, neon colors, landscapes, and some black and white images.

Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Bright White

Hahnemuhle's Photo Rag paper is our go-to archival fine art paper. It has a radiant white surface for brilliant colors and rich blacks, giving exceptional contrast for a matte paper. It has a natural rag texture (nearly smooth) that produces incredible detail and natural colors. It is an excellent choice for fine art reproduction or vintage photos.

Hahnemuhle Museum Etching

With a distinctive texture reminiscent of traditional etching surfaces, this paper is by far our thickest. It is 100% cotton rag and its archival makeup exceeds museum standards. We recommend this paper for naturally textured subjects as well as fine art reproductions that require a textured surface, such as watercolors.

Ilford Gold Fibre Silk

Ilford's Gold Fibre Silk paper has a traditional darkroom paper look and feel. The surface has a smooth, semi-gloss finish produced by a barium sulphate layer on top of a 100% cotton base. This paper is unique for its vibrant colors and deep blacks produced on an archival paper. It is the paper of choice for black and white photographic prints as well as photographic exhibition-style prints.

Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Satin

Photo Rag Satin has a very similar natural rag surface to the Photo Rag Bright White paper, but it has a luxurious satin finish in colored areas while still maintaining a matte finish in white areas. This yields a very sophisticated look for landscape photography, and it reproduces non-matte artwork such as pencil, pen and ink, acrylic, oil, and digital art very well.

Epson Exhibition Natural Satin Canvas

Satin canvas provides high contrast and color vibrance. The tight-weave canvas texture has a slight gloss that looks especially great in softly-lit rooms. Printing on canvas will give your photos an artistic touch that look great at home and at work!

In the movie below, photographer Corinne Alavekios discusses her work and how Exhibition Natural Satin canvas is her canvas of choice for fine art work.
