In the Age of New Media Q: Do I need permission to provide a link from my Web site to someone else's Web site? A: A year or two ago, I would have said, "probably not," because providing a link to another site does not infringe the copyright on the linked site. However, I now recommend that you get permission before linking because the owner of the linked site may not want to be associated with your Web site or your company or your products. If you link without permission and the owner of the linked site is unhappy about being linked, you may find yourself facing a lawsuit (I've seen a couple of lawsuits over unauthorized linking). |
